2025 Missouri Property Tax & Rent Credits

You May Qualify for a Refund in 2025
Missouri residents may qualify for a Missouri Property Tax Credit or Rent Credit refund if income and residency requirements are met. This program helps eligible older adults, individuals with disabilities, and certain veterans offset housing costs paid during the 2025 calendar year.
If you paid rent or property taxes in 2025, it’s worth checking to see if you qualify.
Who Is Eligible?
You may qualify if you:
·Were a Missouri resident for all of 2025
·Paid rent or property taxes on your primary residence (including nursing homes, apartments, or mobile homes)
·Meet income guidelines
Income Limits
Homeowners
·Up to $30,000 (single)
·Up to $34,000 (married, filing combined)
Renters
·Up to $27,200 (single)
·Up to $29,200 (married, filing combined)
In addition, you must also meet one of the following:
·You or your spouse is 65 or older as of December 31, 2025
·You are 60 or older (by 12/31/25) and receive surviving spouse Social Security benefits
·You are 100% disabled
·You are a 100% service-connected disabled veteran
What Do You Need to Bring?
If you would like assistance completing the required forms, please gather:
Homeowners:
·2025 paid real estate tax receipt
Renters:
·Form 5674 (Verification of Rent Paid), completed and signed by your landlord
Income documentation (if applicable):
1099-SSA, 1099 forms, SSI statement, W-2, 1099-RRB, or Veterans Benefits letter.
Additional forms may be required for homesteads over five acres or certain mobile home situations.
How Our Office Can Help
Beginning February 1st, you may bring your paperwork to our Northeast Missouri Area Agency on Aging office during regular business hours.
Please note:
·We are not offering in-person tax appointments
·We only assist with the Missouri Property Tax Credit
·We do not prepare other tax returns
When you drop off your documents, staff will complete a brief form with you. A trained volunteer will prepare your paperwork and contact you when it’s ready. At pickup, you will review, sign, add postage, and mail it to the Missouri Department of Revenue.
